NHS Eye Tests

Are you entitled to a free eye test and free glasses?

Below is a list of all the people who are exempt from paying for their eye test.
  • Under the age of 16
  • Aged between 16-18 and in full time education
  • Over the age of 60
  • You or your partner receive job seekers allowance
  • You or your partner receive income support
  • You or your partner receive pension credit guarantee
  • You are named on an NHS Tax Credit Exemption card
  • You are registered blind or partially sighted
  • You have been prescribed complex lenses
  • You or your partner hold an NHS HC2 certificate
  • You have diabetes
  • You have glaucoma
  • You are considered by an eye specialist to be at risk of glaucoma
  • You are aged 40+ and are the parent, sibling or child of a glaucoma sufferer
All children 18 and under in full time education and patients receiving a government benefit are also entitled to free lenses in their glasses and the option of a free NHS frame.
